Ammar Hud Hud is from Syria. He and his family came to Canada in the autumn of 2019, and now live in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. Mr. Hud Hud worked in Syria as a women's fashion designer and dress maker prior to his arrival in Nova Scotia.
"I owned a factory, but the war took everything from me, my factory, my home, and my beautiful life. I moved to Jordan in January, 2013 and then to Egypt in June, 2013. Since arriving in this beautiful country of Canada I have been surrounded by good people. I have seen all the love they have in helping me start a new life. But, the Covid 19 pandemic came and I knew I wanted to contribute something back to my community. So with the help of friends, my son and I started making masks to help limit the spread of this virus. I hope that my masks will be of help and I look forward to the day when we can all gather to enjoy life together again."
The masks are sewn with two layers of cotton fabric, with comfortable elastic ear loops. Currently available in the Nova Scotia Tartan and a multi-coloured fabric reminiscent of tie-dyed cloth. Our experience is that the Tartan pattern suits someone requiring a large mask well, but may be too large for some.
